Singles wine tasting

Dick Cecil

The Singles Grape Expectations wine tasting group celebrated St. Patrick’s Day for its March meeting held on March 17. The wine topic for the evening was wines from the Western US.

Four wines were sampled and discussed. The first two were a Pinot Grigio from Washington and a Pinot Gris from Oregon. This provided a comparison of two quite different wines made from the same grape in neighboring states. Also sampled were a California Pinot Noir and a California Black Red Blend. The wines were accompanied by a cheese and fruit plate. To top off the evening host Pat Marsh served corned beef, colcannon, an Irish cheddar, and mead, or honey wine. Mead wine has been in existence for centuries and if you have not tried it you will find it interesting.

Grape Expectations is one of five wine groups within Singles Club and has been in existence for well over ten years. These groups meet monthly, usually with a theme for the month. Besides having a good time, the goal is to learn more about wine making, grape varieties, aging, growing regions and climate, and different wines from the many countries of the world.

The Singles Club participates in many varied social, cultural, and community service activities throughout the year. We meet every Tuesday to “Mix and Mingle” at the Grill from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in learning more about the club, stop by to see us there.
