The Drone Club meets the fourth Monday evening of each month, from 7 to 8 p.m. in Room 104 at the Creative Arts Technology Center (CATC). We have no dues, and attendance is open for any Robson resident who is interested in anything that is drone related, regardless of what they own or understand, but have a desire to learn more about. Drone Club members can access prior meeting slide shows, synapses, photos, and some full meeting recordings through membership in Groups.io (formerly known as Yahoo Groups) at rrtxtech.groups.io/g/main and at our new website, robsontech.club/tag/drone.

Our April 24 meeting was hosted by Dennis Brooks (club vice president). This meeting was enhanced by the Drone Club display in the Spotlight Window of the CATC. We encouraged all to drop by and see the variety of drones, accessories, and literature.

We had a good meeting with lots of interaction. The primary focus of the meeting was covering a drone with vinyl decals, known as skins. There are huge selections of graphics from several companies that you can choose from, or you can use your own photos/graphics to create a skin for your drone. The images are printed on a high-quality, adhesive-backed vinyl, then templates die cut pieces that will fit your drone. You select one of several parts pages and move the selected image to display your selection on those parts. You can use multiple images or repeat the same image for each page of parts. The number of pages varies by the size and brand of drone.

A selection of skinned drones and printed skins was displayed. There were graphics from decal companies and a custom skin from a club member drone photo. The meeting continued with a variety of accessories used by members here at Robson Ranch Denton. During an interactive discussion, some accessories were recommended and some were not, based on experiences over the last three years.

Items such as an LED show, a drone mask, reflective/LED illuminated landing pads, and night safety equipment like LED marker bars and bright/reflective clothing were shown and discussed. Everyone enjoyed the display of skins/skinned drones and the accessories to make flight at Robson Ranch Denton enjoyable and safe!

Our May 22 meeting, starting at 7 p.m. in Room 104, is a presentation by a local Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) representative on requirements for recreational pilots flying drones. We hope to see everyone then.
