Spring Bocce Season Kicks Off with High Spirits and High Winds

The Spring Bocce Season launched with enthusiasm on March 10 as players eagerly returned to the courts. After months of indoor play, participants quickly realized that the transition back to outdoor bocce required a fresh approach. With more than 1,700 players signed up this season, the energy and excitement were palpable.

However, the season’s first two weeks were met with an unexpected challenge—record high winds. After extensive testing of the aerodynamic properties of a bocce, a pallino, and a PVC pipe, factoring in the coefficients of drag, thermal expansion, and wind shear, it was determined that matches should be canceled. The aforementioned testing was carried out under the direction and supervision of the board’s resident engineer John Nallon. Actually, the final decision was made after the Grill secured all outdoor furniture due to safety concerns.

Meanwhile, construction of the new bocce courts is progressing at an impressive pace. Concrete has been poured for several courts, and work on the ramada is underway. Impressive fact: Did you know that 500 cubic yards of concrete have been poured so far? That works out to 100,000 gallons of concrete! Players and fans alike are eagerly watching the daily developments at the worksite, anticipating the long-awaited completion of the project.

Excitement is building, not only for the new courts but also for the ongoing member contest. Who will accurately predict the completion date? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: The bocce community is ready for an action-packed season.
