Originally scheduled for the first Saturday in April, the annual Robson Ranch Tennis Club Spring Fling Tournament endured three weekends of rain delays until players could gather to battle for a championship on April 26. When the last volley was volleyed, the last baseline rally was completed, the last serve served, and the last overhead put away, champions Ed Dugan and Carol Reyes celebrated victories. The men’s and women’s winners, as well as runners-up Jake Mackie and Lana Doggett, each received commemorative towels. Of course, as the temperatures in Denton rise into the 100s soon, a tennis towel will be much appreciated.
Spring Fling is the first of the tournaments held each year by the Tennis Club, but it is not just tournaments that fill the courts on a regular basis. Weekly drop-in tennis days, regular scheduled inter-club play, competitive women’s team matches against other clubs, and just general pick-up and scheduled doubles and singles games keep the courts and the residents active.
As Robson Ranch continues to grow, anyone at any level who is interested in tennis is encouraged to contact the Tennis Club for information on all activities and opportunities. After all, a tennis court is happiest when it has players chasing down those lobs and jumping in to snag those volleys out of the air.
Tennis Club membership is just $20 a year. Simply contact the Tennis Club at [email protected]. See you at the courts!
