Fifty people are seeking a forum to discuss progressive political values and issues at all levels of government. Their desire is to encourage voter participation in elections, support particular candidates for elected offices and recruit new members for activities endorsed by the membership.
During the initial meeting a nominating committee of Virginia Wheeless, Denice Marusak and Kara Engstrom recommended candidates for the executive committee. Officers elected were Tom Cindric and Richard Kushmaul, co-presidents; Wayne Friesner, vice-president; and Kara Engstrom, secretary/treasurer.
Members participated by volunteering for efforts such as establishing relationships with other political organizations including RR Concerned Citizens, Voices United, Indivisible Denton and Democratic Clubs in surrounding areas. Committees were formed to develop a statement of values, coordinate future social events and set up a website and Facebook page.
Meetings will be scheduled for 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse on the third Thursday of each month except for the May meeting, which will be on May 25. The club looks forward to many activities and encourages anyone who is interested to attend.
