Successful 4th Annual All Cancer Walk!

Nancy Thomas

On Oct. 4 the Breast Cancer Support Group and Living Well Committee sponsored the 4th Annual All Cancer Walk. More than 150 walkers, adorable dogs, and several golf carts took part in the two-mile route. Some were dressed in costumes, some denoting who they were walking for or in remembrance of, and some were in decorated golf carts. Dr. Charles Kurkul from Texas Oncology and his two boys joined us. It was a beautiful morning for a walk. We followed that with pastries and coffee, provided by Rhett and the Grill staff, in the clubhouse, along with the raffle drawing. The total value of the raffle donations was $7,864. Our sales totaled $3,605.

We are happy to report that the grand total from registrations, donations, and raffle ticket sales was $13,280.00!

We would love to list all who contributed, but the list of raffle donors alone is 44! We do want to thank our Robson Kiwanis Club for their $1,000 donation. They do so much to support local charities, and we’re so thankful that they chose our cause.

In addition, we thank our support team: Shelbi Berg, Rhett Hubbard, Dana Lodwick of the Living Well Committee for her help setting up the route, Paul Vargos of our Patrol for keeping us safe on the walk, and the Breast Cancer Support Group Committee for their tireless work to bring this all together. The committee chair was Pat Garrett, with members Susan Cope, Ruth Womack, Karen Nelsen, Penny Trott, Janet Pauley, and Nancy Thomas. Many of our group also helped with registrations and other duties. We can’t forget the husbands who helped with manual labor. In addition, we thank our DJ Dr. Jolly for the wonderful music and the Chick-fil-A cow for her appearance and picture opportunities.

All of our work was worth the effort, as we know the Texas Oncology Foundation, a 501(c)(3), does so much. Every dollar stays right here in our Denton community. This isn’t about paying for cancer treatment. It’s about helping patients handle everything else: rent, transportation, housing, and the daily costs of living while going through cancer care.

We hope you will join us on Oct. 17, 2026, for our 5th Annual All Cancer Walk so we can help many more cancer patients.
