Summer Bocce Season and Bocce Court Update

Construction on the bocce courts

Summer bocce being played

Playing sports in the summer can be challenging, especially with the Texas heat and humidity, yet 23 teams came out to play bocce this summer. With games scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., bocce players were out early enough to beat the heat and have lots of fun! Competition amongst the teams was friendly but fierce. There were three divisions playing this summer: Avigliano Division on Tuesday, San Cataldo Division on Wednesday, and Calitri Division on Thursday.

The last games of the summer season were played the week of July 22. The top three teams in the Avigliano Division were Pallino Posse, Pallino and Potters, and Mac N Boccese. In the San Cataldo Division, the top three teams were Bocce-Lism, Veni Vici Bocce, and Latte Bocce. Leaders in the Calitri Division were Gelatos, Grab Your Balls, and Gone to the Dogs. Play-off games are scheduled for the week of July 29—unfortunately, too late for the final results to be published here. Time will tell which team will come out as the Summer Bocce Champions, but we will certainly let you know in the next issue of the Pioneer Press.

Construction on the new bocce courts is progressing very well. Heavy equipment is visible on-site daily, working towards completion of the new eight-court facility. The inconvenience of construction will be well worth the pleasure of playing on the new courts.

When the new, beautiful, eight-court facility opens, the Robson Ranch bocce game will be entirely different. Players will no longer have to deal with uneven courts, PVC pipes coming apart when banking shots, or balls hopping over the pipes to another court. Instead, players will have to adjust to a completely different playing experience.

A big shout-out to Rick Bidne for his continued maintenance of the PVC courts over the past few years as the club membership has grown. With more divisions, teams, and players, the PVC pipes have taken a beating, but Rick has always been on top of repairing/maintaining them. Thanks, Rick!

In anticipation of the new courts opening in the fall, the bocce leadership has been remarkably busy preparing the changes to the rules and scheduling, in addition to reorganizing the fall league. Two new divisions have opened on Monday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Several teams have also moved to other days/times, and a total of nine new teams have been formed. That brings the total number to 14 divisions, 139 teams, and 1,600 members playing bocce at Robson Ranch! Please check us out on our website at rrbocce.com.
