There are lots of events coming up this fall for Support Our Troops (SOT), especially our annual Veterans Day Auction on Friday, Nov. 11. This annual event is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. All of the money that we collect from the auctioned items goes to support our military here and on deployment. Our Robson Ranch family has always been very generous in their support of this event. We will have many items to bid on, including wine and liquor baskets, restaurant gift cards, art and decorative items, Sassy Stamper cards, and lots of business items. We look forward to another great turnout and support from the Ranch.
At our August meeting, we were thrilled to hear from Jonathon Cooksey. He is the son of Scotty and Cindy Cooksey and is currently serving in the Army in Germany. He was accompanied by his daughters and his fiancée. Knowing that he and his battalion enjoy the snacks we send them meant so much. So far this year, our teams have delivered 291 boxes of goodies to deployed troops in Germany, the Netherlands, Egypt, at sea, and other countries.
The Sassy Stampers continue to make beautiful cards that are sent to our troops each month with notes from SOT members.
The Young Men’s Service League had its first meeting of this school year in August. These young men come from Argyle with their moms and come monthly to write letters to the troops and listen to a veteran share their military experiences. This is our fifth year of SOT’s association with YMSL, and it is truly a wonderful one.
The Veterans Brick Drive is on until Sept. 24. If you wish to purchase a brick to honor a military person, contact Darin Burk at [email protected]. You can also find the forms on our website www.supportourtroopstexas.com, or you can find a form on the wall near the HOA office.
We would like to thank the Woodcrafters for the box of handmade pens that they gave to us to include in the boxes that we send to the deployed troops. Thanks, you woodworkers!
For those of you who are veterans, there is an opportunity to serve other veterans at Texas Health Presbyterian through the Veteran’s Visitation Program. You visit the vets in the hospital for two to three hours. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Pam Milam at 940-898-7053 or by email at [email protected].
SOT meets monthly on the second Monday of the month in the clubhouse. You do not have to be a member of the military or a former member to join. The group is very welcoming and would love to have you attend. Also, if you have a child or grandchild now in the military, please let us know. We would love to support them. All you have to do is go to our website and follow the instructions. It would be our pleasure to support them. We hope to see you at our next meeting.
