TCU Go Frogs Club Hosts “Battle for the Saddle”

Robson TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Tech Red Raiders fans gathered for the Battle of the Saddle.

Fall football weather arrived just in time for our game watch party with our friends from the Texas Tech Club. About 50 fans for the two teams gathered at Blake and Teresa Prewit’s home to watch the 53rd West Texas Battle for the Saddle game on Nov. 2. It marked Robson’s Go Frogs Club first-ever joint game watching party.

In addition to fans for both teams turning out, there was an appearance of what might (or might not) be the saddle from the original game trophy, which has been missing since 1971. (Hopefully, the statute of limitations on that has expired!)

Pregame festivities included lots of appetizers, plus a delicious Tex-Mex meal of tamales, tortillas, enchiladas, and rice and beans.

At kickoff time, we gathered in the Prewits’ backyard/greenbelt to watch the game on a big-screen projection TV. Guests made themselves comfortable in lawn chairs, under stadium blankets and around numerous fire pits.

Mother Nature tried to crash the party (and the screen) with her West Texas breezes but, in the end, some landscape stones and a little Robson ingenuity prevailed!

The game was a close one, but our Horned Frogs lost 35-28. Hopefully, the saddle trophy will return home to Fort Worth in ‘24!
