Dianne Edmondson, Publicity Chair
Did you know that Texas is the only state to have a state-owned gold bullion storage facility? About fifty people here at our newly-remodeled clubhouse learned that factoid plus many other interesting facts from Glenn Hager, who serves as the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Speaking recently to a special joint meeting of the Robson Ranch (RR) Republican Club and the Texas Strong Republican Women (TSRW), Comptroller Hager explained the many duties of his office, and how important that office is when the Legislature meets every two years to pass a budget for the state’s projected income and expenses.
His part is needed for the projection part, and he described how difficult it is to project income for the state based on past data, when each biennial seems to have a different challenge. Those challenges include the state-wide below freezing temperatures this year, and things such as Hurricane Harvey, and dropping oil prices in previous cycles.
The attendees were very entertained by Hager’s data-driven presentation, and listened intently for nearly an hour, until Hager had to leave to return to Austin.
RR Republican President Olive Morton and TSRW Vice President Dianne Edmondson agreed that the joint meeting was very productive and that similar events may be held in the future. Residents interested in the Robson Ranch Republican Club can contact Treasurer Katherine Vess at 214-460-2614 for more information. The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse.
