Emily Coffman Richardson
The Texas State Genealogical Society (TxSGS) is pleased to announce Emily Coffman Richardson as its newly elected president. She took office on Jan. 1, 2025. A distinguished professional genealogist and lecturer based in Denton, Texas, Emily brings extensive experience in genealogical research, education, and society leadership to her new role.
Emily’s journey in genealogy began alongside her mother, conducting research in court houses and cemeteries throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. Her professional experience includes significant research work in North and South Carolina from 2014 to 2018 where she specialized in both private client work and pro bono research at state archives.
Prior to her election as president, Emily demonstrated her commitment to TxSGS through four years of service as society secretary and, most recently, as a director-at-large on the Executive Committee. She currently oversees the society’s podcast Lone Star Family Trails and has been instrumental in expanding the organization’s educational outreach with a new course, Genealogy Essentials.
“As I step into this leadership role, I’m energized by the opportunity to build upon TxSGS’ rich legacy of connecting Texans with their family history,” Emily declared. “Our vision centers on providing member value through innovative educational programs, enhanced digital offerings, and collaborative opportunities that will ensure that Texas’ diverse family histories are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.”
A retired higher education faculty member and administrator, Emily founded Kinsearchers, continuing the legacy of her mother’s genealogical research business. She actively contributes to genealogical education as the programming chair for Robson Ranch Genealogy Club and as an instructor for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of North Texas.
Her professional development includes completion of advanced genealogical education programs through the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), the Institute of Genealogical Studies (IGHR), the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research (TIGR), GRIP, and ProGen34.
