Staff from the Denton Public Library (DPL) visited our Robson Ranch Library on Sept. 22, and 55 residents took advantage of their services. The Robson Library had quite a crowd! It was a pleasure to see that reading is alive and well in our community.
Over the two hours that the DPL librarians were there, residents were able to obtain a Denton Public Library card and get hands-on help with downloading and successfully navigating DPL digital materials. With a DPL card, library users are able to check out traditional hardcopy library materials from all three DPL locations and are also able to remotely download books, audiobooks, movies, music, and magazines using CloudLibrary and Hoopla. Although none of the DPL’s three branches is very far away from the Ranch, if you choose to take advantage of the library’s digital materials, you can have a constant supply of materials without ever leaving the Ranch.
In addition to materials to check out, DPL also offers various other resources. The Forge at North Branch Library features 3D printing, laser engraving and design, fabrication, and crafting equipment. The Legacy Lab at Emily Fowler Central Library is a self-service digital archiving and conversion lab that provides you with the tools and training to digitize your family’s memories. The Special Collections, also located at Emily Fowler, offers unique resources for genealogy, local history, Texana, and the City of Denton Municipal Archive. DPL also offers hundreds of free classes and events for all ages and interests, as well as access from home computers to many of the library’s information and learning databases. Public libraries offer much more than books these days! For more information on the varied resources and services the Denton Public Library makes available to the community, check out their website www.library.cityofdenton.com.
To one of the Robson resident’s comments expressing pleasure at the helpfulness of DPL bringing the very popular Denton Public Library Cards & E-Reader and Digital Audio Books Assistance Program directly to our Robson Ranch community, one of the DPL librarians responded that he, too, was happy that we had established such a symbiotic relationship between our two libraries. DPL plans to return in the spring. Watch for the date.
During the DPL event, many new arrivals to Robson Ranch signed up for DPL cards and also registered to use the Robson Ranch Library. The Robson Ranch Library offers a wonderful collection of materials, too! In addition to reading materials, we offer lots of jigsaw puzzles for check-out. If you’re not yet registered to borrow materials from our library, stop in and register. It just takes a couple of minutes.
