Trivia Night at the Ranch

Erminja Maganja, VP, RR Trivia Club

The last of four Trivia Nights conducted this year by the RR Trivia Club was held on Oct. 5 in the clubhouse ballroom. Players were in good spirits and enjoyed a fast-paced evening and a good variety of questions. Nearly $2,000 in door prizes was awarded to individuals and tablemates. Prizes included gift cards to the Wildhorse Grill and Pro Shop, plus Visa gift cards.

Now for the big winners. We extend enthusiastic congratulations to the top three teams: Taking first place were the Quizzards with 67 points, winning a $50 gift card for each member. The 76Errs secured second place with 65 points, each member winning a $25 gift card. And Smarticus scored 64 points to earn third place and $20 gift cards. Well done!

Made possible by your purchase of Trivia tickets, we presented a donation in the amount of $1,000 to Hanks Homies, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that hosts golf clinics for children with Down’s syndrome or other intellectual disabilities. They do not receive grants or government funding. Presently, their sole fundraiser is an annual golf tournament (www.instagram.com/reel/CrdvHpXOvDH).

We appreciate your support! We carefully review the feedback and constructive comments you provide. Our aim is to provide a lighthearted evening enjoyed with neighbors and friends.

Happily, we have secured dates for four Trivia Nights in 2024. As always, we will make announcements about ticket sales and other pertinent details through the RR HOA Clubs & Activities emails, via the HOA Message Board, on private RR Facebook pages, and on the Nextdoor RR-only neighborhood site.

Here’s a sampling of trivia questions from the October event (answers appear at the end of this article):

1. Category: Fun Facts: What was the nightly room rate at the first Motel 6, which opened in Santa Barbara in 1962?

2. Category: Animals: What creature produces gossamer?

3. Category: Museums: In what state is the Hormel Spam Museum located?

The Trivia Club was formed in late 2022 by a group of enthusiasts, led by Linda Smith, who serves as club president; Erminja Maganja, vice president and publicity chair; and Susan Volgamore, treasurer. The games are made possible with a team of capable helpers who work behind the scenes on the day of the event, assisting with set-up, tear-down, and many other essential tasks. Our sincere thanks to Judy Sale, Jan Thomas, Pat Lamphier, and David Holmes for their good work and attention to detail. And kudos to Rance and Marci Malcom for their technical skills and automating the scoring system.

We are seeking new members for the Trivia Board who will continue to host games into the future. If you have interest in joining us, please let us know. We’d like to find replacements for ourselves so we can play Trivia again soon … help!
