On March 21 the Tuesday Tasters gathered at the beautiful home of Bob and Ann Jones and their adorable four-legged friends! A warm welcome was given to our newest members, Juris and Linda Klovans.
The featured wines of the evening were from Spain. To accompany the wine we enjoyed bacon-wrapped shrimp, stuffed jalapeños and an olive/artichoke tapas with ricotta cheese, to name a few. It was a tight race as all the wines were very good, and the results were as follows:
Third place was a 2012 Marques de Caceres Crianza grown in Spain’s Rioja wine region brought by John and Jane Thompson. This red is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano grapes and has spicy aromas and berry fruit flavors.
Second place was tied with a 2012 URO Toro Finca La Rana brought by Tom And Vicki Moses and Rick and Darlene Lamb. Made with 100% Tinta de Toro grapes, this wine scored 92 points with Wine Advocate. It is bright ruby red in color and a nose mixing red and black fruit and an earthy, spicy twist developing a floral note with some hints of Mediterranean herbs, cured meat and licorice.
And the winner was a 2015 Agoston from the Carinena wine region of Northern Spain brought by Cyndi Stampf. This blend is 50% Garnacha and 50% Syrah. It’s a modern-style Spanish red wine that’s young, fresh and easy-drinking with lots of bright berry fruit. Garnacha and Syrah are especially popular for the reminiscence to forest fruit, notably raspberries and black cherries with a smooth juicy richness and truly relaxed style.
It was a beautiful evening which ended telling stories and enjoying each other’s company by the fire. Until next time, Cheers!
