The monthly luncheon meeting of Voices United met on Saturday, August 3, at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse. The current head of the steering committee, Tracy Olson, welcomed guests and new members.
After lunch, standing committees reported on their activities with updates and new business.
Guest speaker, Condell Garden, was welcomed to the meeting. Ms. Garden is the executive director of Interfaith Ministries of Denton. She thanked Voices United for collecting fans and cash donations again this year that offered some much-needed help for those without air conditioning. Ms. Garden also remarked that Interfaith Ministries of Denton is looking for several new board members to replace some members who are leaving. Contact Interfaith Ministries of Denton for more information.
In other news, the social committee hosted a Festivus in July white elephant auction on July 20 at the home of Jane and John Thompson. Proceeds will help Voices United with upcoming fundraising, volunteering, and social activities.
In October, Voices United will hold a fundraiser for IGNITE at the home of Jane Thompson. IGNITE is a bipartisan organization which empowers young women to build political ambition.
A Halloween party will replace the October meeting and the November meeting will be at the home of Nanci and Bill Odem.
