Since February is American Heart Month, Dr. Kevin Theleman, a cardiologist with Baylor Scott & White Health, was invited to the February meeting of Voices United to educate the members about their heart health.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women and can affect women of any age. According to Dr. Theleman, women tend to ignore the symptoms of a heart attack. He encouraged women who may be exhibiting symptoms of a heart attack to not be afraid to get checked. It is important to be treated within the first hour after a heart attack to prevent additional damage to the heart. Some things which can put you at higher risk for heart disease are smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, and your genetics or family history.
Voices United holds a monthly luncheon meeting on the first Saturday of the month. For more information, go to www.voicesunitedrr.org. The group also has various social activities. In February a group attended the movie Wuthering Heights and then discussed the movie over lunch. In March members toured the Texas First Ladies Historic Gown Collection at TWU.
Voices United is a non-partisan group of Robson Ranch women who share progressive values, perform community outreach, provide civic awareness and social contact for members, and have a good time! We’re a 501(c)(3) group. Our annual dues are $25.
