Voices United Rallying Call: Organize. Advocate. Educate.

Voices United members take our voices to the street.

Vicki Baker

Almost eight years ago, a group of Robson Ranch women joined others across the nation to march in support of women’s rights. This gathering in 2017 sparked the establishment of Voices United, an organization of progressive-minded women, which has grown from just a handful to nearly 100 members.

With another impassioned election at our doorstep, Voices United again joined women throughout the country. On the Denton Courthouse Square, we rallied for a Kamala Harris presidency. Speakers urged participants to vote in the election—not only for president but for down-ballot candidates as well.

Seeking a system that values the rights and contributions of all and that supports safety and dignity for everyone, we proclaimed our endorsement of women’s rights and also advocated for voting rights, gender equality, and healthcare access. Voices United delivered our message loud and clear: “We will not go back.”

Despite our unrelenting efforts highlighting our bedrock beliefs regarding issues of importance to our nation and communities, we fell short of achieving our goal. Though the outcome of November’s election was disappointing, we’ve taken a moment to reground ourselves and restore our energies for the road ahead. We are not done and have vowed to keep advocating.

The struggles of women are too often overlooked or dismissed, but we will not be silenced until every woman is treated with dignity and respect. Voices United is committed to shining a light on the significant issues we face, from women’s rights and healthcare to climate change and inclusion and equity. Not letting our defeat prevent us from doing what we know is right, we will continue moving in only one direction: forward.

Come share Voices United’s progressive values through community outreach, civic awareness, discussion groups, book readings, cultural events, issue-related presentations, and more. We meet monthly on the first Saturday of the month at 11:30 a.m. in the clubhouse. For more information, visit www.voicesunitedrr.org.
