Voices United members moved into fall with a luncheon meeting on Sept. 13. The featured speaker this month was Francesca d’Atria-Romano, a Robson resident and Voices United member. From a start as a high school teacher in New York City, Francesca used her father’s World War II tool kit in the art of etching. She sold many works depicting classic New York scenes and participates now with other artists in Denton. She is the winner of more than 160 awards for her etchings and paintings.
Now in retirement, Francesca continues to create art and teaches art history through the University of North Texas OLLI program. Francesca sits on the board for the Greater Denton Arts Council and Visual Arts Society of Texas. She is also Arts Representative for the City Council of Denton.
LaDonna Wombochel reported on the success of the Giving Circle event held by the Community Outreach Committee in August. A total of $3,700 in donations was collected and went directly to three local nonprofit organizations who will use the funds for programs that make a difference to our communities.
The Diversity in Action Committee organized a trip to see the play Fat Ham on the day following the meeting. Upcoming events include Oktoberfest, which will be celebrated on Oct. 15 at Rohmer’s Restaurant in Muenster, a charming German eatery. On Nov. 8 the Diversity in Action Committee will celebrate Native American Heritage Month at a powwow in Dallas.
Voices United is a non-partisan group of Robson Ranch women who share progressive values, perform community outreach, provide civic awareness and social contact for members, and have a good time! We’re a 501(c)(3) group. Our annual dues are $25.
