Once again, the City of Denton Animal Shelter is having trouble placing large breed dogs. As more apartments are built in and around Denton, their rules relating to acceptable pets affects adoptions for large breed dogs in a negative manner. We are at full capacity with dogs. These dogs can be some of the more docile, compliant, and gentle family pets, yet they are judged by their size rather than their temperament. We are dedicated to keeping these dogs until they find a forever home. In the meantime, we can use your help in one of two ways: either by donating or volunteering at the shelter.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Gayla Nelsen at [email protected]. She will contact you via email concerning the shelter’s next volunteer orientation class.
If you can donate any of the items listed below, we would be most grateful. Donations can be brought to the shelter Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. The shelter is located at 3717 N. Elm Street, in Denton.
