St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a premier institution fighting pediatric cancer and other diseases based in Memphis, and founded by Danny Thomas in 1962. Danny’s motto is that “no child should die in the dawn of life.” St. Jude has spent more than half a century finding cures and saving children, and their groundbreaking research has helped push the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% in 1962 to more than 80% today. You may know someone who has been treated at St. Jude, or has been treated based on St Jude’s world class protocols and research, which is freely shared with doctors, hospitals and facilities world wide. Visit https://www.stjude.org for further information.
No family pays the hospital for treatment, travel, lodging or food; it costs $2.2 million per day to operate the hospital, and 75% of that comes from private donors.
Next September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we will celebrate the first Denton County-wide fundraiser benefiting St. Jude. “Denton’s Magical Night of Hope” is the title for our gathering at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse. We are seeking volunteers to round out our team and support this project. The event will feature a plated dinner, live music, a silent auction and guest speakers.
Specifically we are looking for help with the following functions:
Event Chairperson: We have an executive committee with myself as the chairperson. We could use two or so more people.
Fundraising/Sponsorships – Chairperson and four members
Logistics: Chairperson and three members
Silent/Live Auction: Chairperson and three members
Public Relations: Chairperson and one member
At-Large Committee: I think we’ll need four or five people who will assist us in various ways off and on throughout the process but are not able to commit to monthly meetings, reports and deadlines.
We could sure use your help. So if you are seeking a rewarding volunteer opportunity, please contact Mike Weaver at 940-391-9614 or at [email protected].
