Celebrations are often joyous occasions that serve as a way to remember and commemorate something pleasant or significant. The Wildhorse Lady Niners (WLN) did just that when they celebrated golf and fellowship during their two-day Celebration Tournament on the North Course at Robson Ranch on Oct. 21-22. The format for each day of nine holes consisted of three holes of Best Ball, three holes of a Modified Alternate Shot, and three holes played as a Scramble. Sixty-five ladies accepted the challenge to play that format, but the prospect of being tournament winners wasn’t the only draw! PGA Superstore in Southlake offered a $1,000 shopping spree to the golfer who made a hole-in-one on hole 2, and Grapevine Golf Cars offered a new cart for a hole-in-one on hole 7. Alas, the wind was not cooperating with the players on those days, and both prizes went unclaimed, but it was very exciting to try.
First-place winners were Sue Dooley, Valerie Hase, Kay Kindopp, and Carrie Reikowsky, with a total score of 54. Second place, also with a total score of 54 but deemed second because of scoring technicalities, went to Linda Kriz, Debbie Andrews, Kris McEntee, and Katy Lane. Third place went to Laura Odom, Cindy Justis, Diane Prager, and Cindy Voliva, with a total score of 55. Congratulations to each of you!
The WLN would like to recognize Gina Ross and Machelle Burtless for all their time and effort putting this tournament together and making it happen. Many volunteers working in concert with Gina and Machelle also helped with various assignments to make it a huge success. Four of those volunteers, Bart Ogburn, Mark Ross, Chris Bundy, and David Pryde, were the gentlemen who monitored holes 2 and 7 to witness any potential holes-in-one and performed other duties as assigned. Chris Bundy, in particular, was invaluable with his behind-the-scenes hard work of getting sponsor signs in place, coordinating the prize holes, and providing a wonderful “beverage” cart! Feedback from the participants deemed it the “best-run and most enjoyable” tournament to date. We appreciate everyone who worked so diligently to make our tournament a success.
The WLN extends a huge thank you to all of our tournament sponsors listed here: Eyecare of Denton, Texas Home Exteriors, PGA Superstore, Grapevine Golf Cars, Yvonne Callahan Realty, House of Carts, Blooming Landscapes, Mulligan Carts, RTS Physical Therapy, Angelia Raney Realty, Tri Star, and Robson Ranch Classic Rock Club. When you are looking for the types of services they provide, we hope you will check them out to see if they are a good match for your needs.
