The Whine-Os had its monthly meeting the home of Frank and Beverlee Deardorff, the hosts for February’s tasting. Our meeting date fell on Valentine’s Day this month, so everyone was decked out in their finest red, and Beverlee did a superb job decorating our tasting table with a beautiful Valentine’s Day flair!
Our hosts, the Deardorffs, started the evening with a triple vertical tasting of Beringer Knight’s Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. We tasted the 2014, 2012 and 2010 vintages. Feedback was split on the 2012 and 2010 being best of that mini tasting.
The other wines included a Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio; Becker Vineyards Viognier; Beringer Chenin Blanc; Flat Creek “Super Texan” Sangiovese; a Quimay Malbec and a wine that was just brought back from Spain that week by Dale and Cindy Brekke, a Crin Roja Tempranillo. We were sure lovin’ our Tapas with that one!
Other members provided several great appetizers and hors d’oeuvres that included a wonderful cream cheese with caramel and Heath Bar Crunch dish; jalapeno boats, savory chicken bites, Sweet & Tangy Crunch and plenty of Swiss cheese and Brie!
It was a truly great evening, and we very much look forward to our next get together in March!
