When the rain stops and the temperature rises, it doesn’t take long for 72 women to come together for opening day for the Wildhorse Lady Niners. March 11 provided the sun and play day coordinators Lane Adams, Jan Angus, Patricia Sterling, Jan Norton, and DeeDee Karabetsos gave the eager golfers an interesting scramble from the silver tees. Random pairings offered ample opportunity for women to play with new golfers and greet returning Niners. Not only were scramble team winners rewarded, but a team with the best team name and best cheer were also identified.
Scramble first place: Team 1 – Vickie Moses, Renee Kowalski, Denise Gautheir, and Patty Scott; and Team 2 – Kathleen Ackermann, Mary Ellen Steibel, Sharon Watts, and Lynne Shorney
Scramble second place: Team 3 – Fran Norris, Diana Warner, Pam Franks, and Mary Burke; and Team 4 – Frances Rolater, Kathy Prechtel, Cathy Hester, and Virginia Wheeless
Best Team Name: “Oh Just Hit It” – Shirley Revering, Lane Adams, Gayle Lee, and Barbara Cummins
Best Cheer: Sandy Owens, Janie Farnsworth, Marsha Scholze, and Mary Ornberg
Niner president, Jane Thompson, presented a film with Niner actresses about team etiquette and local rules which drew astute attention, great laughter, and cheers. After a brief business meeting and lunch the group left looking forward to the 2020 season. But, now we know our new obligations—helping to contain COVID-19 as we protect our loved ones and friends at Robson Ranch Denton.
