Mary Ann Wood is a familiar face to WLN players. For the past three years, she has served on the Executive Board as the treasurer for the organization.
During a recent Wednesday scramble, Mary Ann and her foursome teed off on the seventh hole of the North course. “It was the first drive of the round, so usually I expect the ball to go anywhere. I saw it land on the green and thought it rolled off, because I couldn’t see it.”
Team member Bonnie Kohnert told Mary Ann she thought it went in the hole and drove up to the green to check. With a thumbs-up from Bonnie, Mary Ann got the news that her first shot was indeed a hole-in-one.
Mary Ann, who has been playing golf seriously since she moved to the Ranch four years ago, said she and her teammates were very surprised and celebrated the effort.
“I’m still amazed,” said Mary Ann. “My family was excited, and everyone has been congratulating me. I know it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”
As teammate Jennifer Phelps reminded her, “It’s all downhill from here!”
