Women Sharing Hope: A Look Back at 2024

Joanne Horst

Starting as a small group with one ministry in 2019, Women Sharing Hope (WSH) has grown exponentially. Today, it is an official chartered club, with attendance ranging from 70 to 200 at its monthly programs. This year’s inspiring topics included “Is the Bible Fact or Fiction?,” “Life-Changing Miracles,” and “Defiant Joy from Gratefulness.” Additionally, WSH hosted memorable Good Friday and Christmas celebration events featuring orchestras, skits, dancers, vocalists, and more.

A highlight of the year was the return of the “Are You Prepared to Be Left Behind?” program. This sellout event drew 300 attendees and provided a comprehensive 74-page handbook addressing practical estate planning needs beyond wills and trusts. We are hoping to do a reprint of this booklet in 2025.

WSH now oversees 15 ministries, supported by 18 dedicated leaders. Each ministry caters to specific needs within the community:

• Christian Book Club Ministry: A thriving program so popular that it seeks a second leader.

• Christian Movie Ministry: Screened faith-based films like The Jesus Revolution and God’s Not Dead 4 for Robson residents.

• Robson Angels: Offers free respite for caregivers by spending time with their loved ones.

• Bible 101 and 102 Studies: Designed for those new to Bible study.

• Hold My Hand Ministry: Assists caregivers in making challenging decisions about loved ones’ care.

• Games for Dames: Held monthly, this ministry helps new residents connect and build friendships.

• Widows Ministry: Provides grief support, social activities, and an Encouragers Program.

• Prayer, Praise, and Play (PPP): Nine groups of up to 12 ladies foster lifelong friendships. There are also PPPs for widows and working women.

• We Care Prayer Ministry: Prayer warriors pray monthly over requests and praises. A prayer chain is activated for immediate needs.

• Special Needs Meal Train Ministry: Coordinates meal delivery during times of illness or loss.

• You’ve Got a Friend Ministry: Visits homebound neighbors to offer companionship.

• Annual Retreats: This year’s Broken Bow, Okla., retreat explored “Why We Are Here—Why We Were Created.” The Camp Copass retreat is located in Denton.

• Community Outreach Ministry: Conducts Bible studies at Our Daily Bread, creates Blessing Bags for the homeless, and visits residents at Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living, along with feeding the workers waiting on the street corners for work each day.

WSH also embraced the holiday spirit with its 15th annual Christmas caroling, delivering cheer to those recovering from illness or loss. Other December initiatives included free wrapping of gifts for Robson residents, delivering baskets to homebound ladies, making Blessing Bags for the homeless, and giving out 75 free Christian books.

The group’s presence at the Robson 4th of July parade, where they handed out fans and shared their message of hope, showcased their community involvement.

Women Sharing Hope’s mission is clear: To serve the One who loves us most by providing support, encouragement, and connection. Is there a place for you in Women Sharing Hope? Absolutely! Bring your talents and ideas to make 2025 another impactful year.
