Our program on February 2, 2015 featured hearts, candy, love, the color red and flowers. The first Friday in February is designated wear red day in honor of fighting heart disease.
After President Teresa Blackburn-Korn acknowledged all the new members and first time attendees, we also gave a big happy birthday to 32 members for the month of February.
The theme of February’s program was celebration of the heart. Special love stories were told by several members of the club: Kathleen Wazny, A soldier and his bride; Catherine Simpson, My Forever Love; Teresa Blackburn-Korn, Love of an angel; Vicki Baker, In the spirit of love; and Sharon Foy, I sure will be glad when I get back home.
A final tribute to our celebration of the heart was Melba Beckham singing Unchained Melody, The Glory of Love, and a sing-along, Let Me Call You Sweetheart. Diane Leseman accompanied her on the piano. The love in the room was overwhelming, and a standing ovation was given to Melba and the story tellers.
We had a beautiful array of red roses donated by Don Duff. The women’s club sold a total of $615 from the sale of roses to be donated to the Go Red for Women AHA. We also received donations of $735, food and some toiletries for the Friends of the Family Charity.
