Our speaker at our January luncheon scheduled for Jan. 6, 2025, will be Ann Patterson. Ann was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and she graduated from John H. Reagan High School. She attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering, with specialty fields of study in orbital mechanics and high-performance flight testing.

In December of 1980, Ms. Patterson went to work for NASA Johnson Space Center in Aircraft Operations. After working with the flight simulators to train astronauts, she applied for the 1978 astronaut selection, but she was too short. In 1987 Ms. Patterson transferred to the Space Shuttle Program office and served in various capacities until that program ended in 2011. After a trailblazing career in this industry, she retired in 2015 and moved to Denton. Ann will delight us with stories about her exceptional career.

The January luncheon will be a buffet of pulled pork with BBQ sauce, Hawaiian slider buns, macaroni and cheese, and house salad, with a cherry cobbler for dessert. The deadline to sign up for the January luncheon is Dec. 30 at 8 a.m.

It’s a new year, so drop off separate checks for the luncheon and rejoining the Women’s Club for another fun year. Women’s Club dues are $20, and the luncheon is $19. If you have any questions about the luncheon, contact Candance Anderson at 512-809-7570.

During our November business meeting, we learned that the Women’s Club now has 528 members! We had four new members introduced at the luncheon, and Shirley Monge led the celebration of November birthdays.

Our community outreach efforts are having great success. We raised $440 at the luncheon for the Denton Community Food Center. These funds will buy over $3,000 worth of food. Suzanne Spisak announced that the Day of Caring at Our Daily Bread achieved 60 hours of volunteer time with 28 participants. In addition, a check was presented to Our Daily Bread for $15,406, proceeds from the Holiday Market held in October. The clubhouse was filled with more than 60 vendors sharing their crafts and skills and was attended by 1,700 people.

The new 2025 board members were elected, including President-elect Chris Anderson, Membership Sallie Wasson, Programs Deborah Deverich, Treasurer Nancy Nix, Secretary Pam Franks, Parliamentarian Sandra Mankowich, and Luncheon Coordinator Candace Anderson. Donna DeBoever will be the Women’s Club 2025 president.

In November the Robson Ranch Drama Club delighted us with “A Thanksgiving Program.” Mary Ornberg produced a show with songs such as “Over the River and Through the Woods,” skits like “Thanksgiving Gone Wrong,” a solo by Deborah Deverich, and a hilarious version of “Stretchy Pants.” It was an entertaining lead-up for the coming holiday season.
