Women’s Golf Association Eclectic Tournament

Who says there are no “do-overs” in golf? The Women’s Golf Association says there are do-overs when it’s the Eclectic Tournament. On May 13 and 14, 67 ladies hit the links in anticipation of a well-played day of golf. The weather was overcast and muggy, but that didn’t stifle the enthusiasm.

All the women gathered in the Wildhorse Grill to check in, enjoy donuts provided by Tournament Co-chairs Jayne Gornik and Chris Root, and hear the rules of the tournament. Golfers were encouraged to bring gently used golf attire to donate to First Tee. As always, the donations were substantial.

On the second day, the gently used golf clubs, balls, and tees from the day before were pulled out again for the opportunity to improve on the previous day’s score. Following the same course rotations of north to south, players set about the round. The following players came up with the best combined scores of the two days of play: Flight 1: 1st Okcha Cummings, 2nd Sheri Watkins, 3rd Ruth Lowe, 4th Kerri Kay, 5th Marlene Womack, and Most Improved Jayne Gornik; Flight 2: 1st Jane Demeter, 2nd Diane Bent, 3rd Mary Burke, 4th Becky Kendall, 5th Linda Phillips, and Most Improved Pat Sands; Flight 3: 1st Yvonne Callaway, 2nd Jane Temperly, 3rd Ana Corey, 4th Lee Murphy, 5th Paula DiFonzo, and Most Improved Robin Hanna; Flight 4: 1st Karen Tindal, 2nd Ann Bedinger, 3rd Sue Halsted, 4th Lucy Lindsey, 5th Gabie Bull, and Most Improved Sue Clearfield; Flight 5: 1st Sherry Garvin, 2nd Neva Rhead, 3rd Chris Root, 4th Cheryl McCauley, 5th Ladonna Womochel, and Most Improved Kathi Ackerman.

All the golfers enjoyed lunch consisting of salad and baked potatoes in the clubhouse while the scores were tallied. Once the scores were tabulated, the winners were called up by flight to receive their prize winnings: 1st $40, 2nd $30, 3rd $25, 4th $20, and 5th $15. Most Improved received $40. While beer and wine tickets were included with lunch, no one cried in their beer or whined about their play, since there is always next year to do it all over again!
