In a captivating session, artist Judy Riffel guided Robson residents through an impactful lesson on watercolor techniques, brush usage, color theory, and achieving the best consistency of paint and water. The workshop, sponsored by the Paint & Palette Club, was the final “Third Monday Art Experience” for 2023.
A particularly engaging aspect of the session was the hands-on experience of working on two paintings simultaneously. The first painting featured elements of sky, cliffs, and foreground, while the second one included a tree with a shaded trunk, branches, and leaves. As one painting was drying, artists transitioned to work on the other painting.
While watercolor is often described as difficult and challenging, Judy showed participants that it can also be expressive, forgiving, and full of colorful surprises. The session was not about mastering techniques. It was about giving participants the confidence and ideas to jumpstart their own exploration of watercolor.
Looking ahead to 2024, residents can look forward to two art exhibits and several workshop offerings from the Paint & Palette Club in 2024. If you are interested in joining our group, stop by Room 103 in the CATC building on Monday mornings to visit with members and check us out.
Our initial club meeting for 2024 is Monday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. in Room 103.
Whether you are an experienced artist or a novice looking to explore your creative side, the Paint & Palette Club welcomes all residents. The group meets casually on Mondays, with each person bringing in their current or new project and supplies to work on. If you need help, there is always someone who is willing to share their expertise. Friday mornings also offer studio time to artists, so you’ll see a lot of Paint & Pallet Club members on Fridays, too. Come be a part of the experience with us!
