After Schoolers Help Celebrate the Teachers and Opening of School

Patricia Ewoldt

Borman Elementary and LaGrone Academy in Denton were welcomed back to a new year in the classroom with gifts of “Survival Bags.” Each bag was filled with a variety of items from sweets to supplies to show appreciation for what teachers do for the children, and special wishes written to each teacher to brighten their day and the beginning of the year.

The After Schoolers members individually purchased all the items and club funds were used to supplement whatever else was needed. On Aug. 6 several members gathered and prepared the bags and on Aug. 9 volunteers personally delivered a gift bag to all teachers at both schools.

This beginning event was a lead in to the main event which is the Annual After Schoolers October Garage Sale! This highly anticipated event is a one-day sale on Oct. 16, 8 a.m. to noon, in the clubhouse parking lot.

Great bargains and participation from other vendors!

All money raised by sales, as well as what our vendors pay to set up booths, will continue to fund projects to help teachers, staff, students, and families at the sponsored schools. Members are gratified that the projects are important through letters from teachers, administrators, and even personal stories from parents regarding, for example, the food pantry set up for the members or families this year.

After Schoolers consist of men and women who want to participate in projects to recognize educators in a different way and have a fun time working together. When the opportunity arises, the group tries to plan special social outings that include plays, museums, dining, botanical gardens, etc. New members are invited to join all year. If you are interested, meetings are usually held on the second Friday of each month, September to June, at 10:30 a.m. in the Robson Ranch Clubhouse. Of course, the Oct. 8 meeting is an exception as it will start at 10 a.m.

Hope you will consider joining After Schoolers!
