Once a year in Denton, local restaurants and bars get together for a good cause – Taste of North Texas – and make their food and drinks available for roughly the price of a single restaurant meal. This amazingly gluttonous fundraiser sponsored by the 93-year-old Denton Kiwanis Club supports the ongoing efforts of their Children’s Medical Clinic, a network of dedicated local health care providers providing low-cost or no-cost medical, dental and prescription assistance to disadvantaged children in the Denton area. Members of the Kiwanis Club Robson Ranch volunteered on March 28 to lend its sister club a hand with the event’s alcohol service.

Now in its 30th year, Taste of North Texas is not your typical food tasting expo. Event planners find some of the best tasting and most unique samplings from around Denton in the categories of appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages. For one price, attendees sample a wide range of foods and beverages from 35 different Denton area restaurants, caterer and food service providers. With the admission, food and non-alcoholic beverages are “all you can eat” or until supplies run out, plus two alcoholic drinks for the adults.

You can eat your way through the event sampling a bit of this and a taste of that. Beth Marie’s Ice Cream, Denton’s sweetheart of ice cream shop, served as many scoops of flavors as desired in your choice of a cone or cup. Candy Haven offered delicious sweet delicacies. Mellow Mushroom served pizza slices from their portable oven truck. Chiloso Mexican Bistro had a great avocado bowl and delicious made-to-order toppings. Rudy’s BBQ served sausages, ribs and brisket with your choice of sauce. Mom’s on Main (Aubrey) offered fresh chocolate chip cookies and macaroni and cheese. McAlister’s Deli poured its famous sweet, unsweet and half & half teas. Local breweries served beer…lots of beers. And that’s just a few of the many participating vendors.

So, if you missed it this year, mark your calendar for the Taste of North Texas in spring 2020. You’ll be surprised by what you discover in new foods and beverages. There’s something for everyone and you’ll definitely taste something incredible from some place you never knew about located right here in the city of Denton.
