Road Runner travel plans

Maitland Dade

Last month Brandt Travel and Mayflower Tours made presentations on two trips for the club to consider scheduling. The meeting was well attended and stirred the wanderlust of both first-time and return travelers to the same venues. It was an interesting and fun presentation with beautiful pictures of scenic landscapes and mountains in our national parks.

Interesting details were shared on the daily activities of the scheduled nine-day trip to America’s Canyon Country. There will be local guides on each of the planned tours of national parks in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. The itinerary includes the visits to the famed Grand Canyon North Rim; a scenic cruise on Lake Powell; Monument Valley; Bryce Canyon; Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument; Zion National Park and many other natural wonders throughout Canyon Country. And the trip begins and ends in fabulous Las Vegas! The club has scheduled this trip for October 2016.

It was also proposed that Road Runners visit the state of Michigan. This eight-day trip would begin with an overnight stay in Chicago and morning tour of the Windy City. A scenic deluxe motor coach will provide transportation north to Michigan, stopping for a tour of Traverse City and overnight stay. Next a visit to Mackinac Island and touring in horse drawn carriages, the only mode of transportation on the island. There would be a two-night stay at the renowned Grand Hotel, the world’s largest summer hotel, built in 1897. This sparked a lot of interest among meeting attendees. While staying on Mackinac Island a spectacular train ride through scenic Canadian Agawa Canyon is planned. Last stop on the itinerary will be shopping time in Frankenmuth, Michigan’s “Little Bavaria.” See our website, rrrrclub.com, for more details. The club is considering this trip for August 2017.

If you are still looking for a winter trip, it’s not too late to join fellow Road Runners on a winter cruise. A few spaces are still available aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas leaving from Galveston headed to Jamaica February 21-28. Island cruises and excursions are always fun and offer many sights to see. Bus transportation leaving the Ranch and an overnight stay at Moody Gardens is also available. Go to rrrrclub.com for detailed information.
