July 21 brought a trip to the Bordeaux region of France for the Tuesday Tasters. The trip was hosted by Mike and Susan Milosar. We tasted some very good wines along with delicious appetizers. The voting was very close, but the winning wine was a 2012 Mouton Cadet brought by John and Paula Saunders. France’s Red Bordeaux is always a blended wine made from two to five so-called black grape varieties, with most Bordeaux wines made from three or four of the five varieties. This Mouton Cadet is a blend of Merlot 80%, Cabernet Sauvignon 12% and Cabernet Franc 8%. It was created in 1890 by the legendary Baron Philippe De Rothschild and combines the values and standards of the Rothschild family. This wine expresses the richness and diversity of one of the world’s largest winegrowing areas. Tasting notes: A glittering carmine red with a slight garnet hue. Attractive aromas of ripe strawberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant and blackberry with a touch of aromatic herbs.

Tonight’s tasting also marked the final one for one of the original couples of our group. Fred and Susan Henderson are moving to their new home in Montrose, CO. We wish them safe travels and much luck in their new life.

Until next time, happy tastings.
