What sorcery did the Bryants and Gilbertis conjure up this Halloween?
Nancy Toppan
Eye of Newt, Toe of Frog, Wool of Bat and Tongue of Dog, what Sorcery Horrors have the Bryants and Gilbertis conjured up for Halloween?
Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen. Voices whisper in the trees, “Tonight is Halloween!”
Spirits roam the neighborhood, loose upon the earth ’til light. What fearful shapes and shadows beset your path as you are coaxed into the Bryant’s ghostly coffin Graveyard of the Dearly Departed. Watch out for skeletons, ghosts and ghouls, grinning goblins and beating hearts all rising from their tombs. Beware, you are being watched. Tis the night of the grave’s delight, and the warlocks are at their play; is it the wild wind’s shout or is it they?
As you are enticed to wander through the thick, spooky fog, you find yourself in ‘Rotton Realty’ overtaken by forgotten ghostly souls back from the dead, screeching and shrieking in the night, where spiders spin their webs.
As you start to enter the creepy haunted house, the frightening, unleashed cries of Roy’s ancient skeletal ancestor welcome you. You reach for the witch doorbell. Do you dare come in?
A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is an eerie whispering in distant chambers. An unearthly hand, or was it yours, presses and the latch rises. You find yourself in the mysterious chamber room where disembodied souls have the power to wander. You are greeted by Mike’s babbling Uncle Fuhgeddabondit and his siblings. “Would you like a piece of candy?” asks the mummy hand. While in the parlor trembling with fear you are succumbed by ghastly creatures and ghouls, Daddy Red Eyed Scull Master and family and things that go bump in the night. Is it she, Enchantress, Cleopatra walking the yowling cat and howling dog?
The spine tingles at sounds of the orchestra that beckons you to the music room. Guitar playing maniac, Bone Jet, is getting down to “I Love Rock n Roll” accompanied by the Phantom Piano Player and Heavy Foot on the organ. You are mesmerized but don’t be bewitched by the Flying Witch.
Be cautious of spiders and cobwebs in the hallway leading to the Human Waste Room. You think you are hallucinating when you are received by the Demonized Ghoul, but don’t be surprised when sinister Hanging Hobo helps you flush.
Enter the Banquet Hall where the newly wed “Bones Couple” is conjuring up an eloquent cuisine of ‘Hallow Weenies,’ ‘Spider Eggs,’ ‘Chips and Brain Dip,’ ‘Scull Cough Up,’ ‘Intestines,’ ‘Rat Cheese Delight,’ ‘Vegetable Innards,’ ‘Eye Socket Bites’ and more.
You are lured into the ominous moonlit night by the “Peeper” to a web induced area with flying bats, pumpkins and scull heads where you are enticed to taste a cauldron of Witches Brew. You cringe at the sounds of a mournful groaning Graveyard with an unshackled Percolating Corpse and a Caged Skeleton screaming blood curdling calls to be released.
Beware of magic spells and charms and what you eat and drink; who knows who will be a decoration for next All Hallow’s Eve?
The mystical terror is finally over; at first cock crow the ghosts must go back to their quiet graves below.
