Hats off to the Cowboys! They are the 2014 fall season softball league champions. The Cowboys, managed by Mike and Lori Slocum, ended the fall season with a 6-1 record. Mike and Lori have led the Cowboys for the past five seasons. In addition to their managerial responsibilities, they both work full time in their chosen professions. Managing a softball team consumes much time, and Mike and Lori as well as all softball managers in the league, are to be commended for their dedication and hard work on behalf of their teams.
The Cowboy roster is unique to the league in that the entire team is made up of baby boomers. Most of the team members are either working or recently retired. Three of the boomers in the line-up are women who have played in every game this season. In fact they may be the secret to their successful season. I am sure these cowgirls would not argue with that theory. One thing for sure, the Cowboys are all talented and all love the game. They may arrive to the softball field parking lot as realtors, bankers, business owners, sales managers, safety coordinators, accountants and recent retirees, but when they take to the field in their maroon shirts and hats they all become Cowboys. Go Cowboys and congratulations!
