On Friday, February 13, 20 ladies of the Red Hat Ranchers, all decked out in their red attire, attended the annual affair of Go Red For Women at the UNT Gateway Center.
This event is sponsored each year as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association to help with research on women’s healthcare. Each year a lovely luncheon and style show is held at UNT. The style show featured 75 items designed and created by students. The ladies then voted on their favorite creations, and the winner was presented with a prize. All the clothing in the style show is red to show support for the American Heart Association. Several speakers addressed the group to educate the women on prevention of heart attacks and disease. The featured speaker was Sandy Holt, a heart attack survivor, who told her remarkable story of comeback after having a heart attack.
The Red Hat ladies have attended this luncheon for several years and always come away with feeling the need to be aware and take care of their own personal health. They also usually come away as partial winners of the fabulous silent auction that is held.
This year seven of our sisters pooled their funds and bought one picture, which they will pass around to hang in their houses on a monthly rotation. Now that shows the real spirit of Red Hatting—doing something fun and crazy like that!
Many fun events are already planned for the rest of this year. You never know where these ladies will pop up or what they might be doing.
