On Feb. 6, the African American Social Group (AASG) hosted a Zoom cooking class in honor of Black History Month. The session featured Chef D (Derris Mosley) of Sacramento, Calif., who runs D’s Word of Mouth Catering at www.dwomcatering.com/cooking-class, where he takes pride in delivering entrees inspired by fusing Southern fare with local Sacramento Produce. For this lesson, he delighted the online group with his recipe for shrimp and grits, and drop biscuits. During the lesson, Chef D demonstrated step-by-step from his California kitchen, and the online participants cooked along with him in their own kitchens. Participants had their cameras and microphones on, some had music playing in the background, and others cooked and imbibed at the same time. There was lots of fun, laughter, and sharing pictures of the work-in-progress as well as the final cooked meal. At the end, Chef D quizzed the participants with Black History Month questions, and then the eating started! Delicious! There were 15 participants—in addition to participants from outside the ranch, two participants represented the Robson Ranch Diversity in Action group, a subcommittee of Voices United (Janie Cendric and Donna DeBoever); and three participants represented both the AASG and Diversity in Action (Jacqueline Ford, Renee Smith, Tiffany Ramzy) plus Tiffany’s daughter Vanessa Smith, who joined from NYC.
