April 11, 2015 dawned as a bright sunny day with light winds, which is a perfect day for throwing some “shoes,” which is slang for horseshoes to the uninformed. This day was the grand opening of the four newly built horseshoe courts here at Robson Ranch. Horseshoes is the adult version of tiddley winks. As all things at Robson Ranch, as long as we are competing against each other in a social setting we are having fun. A form of horseshoes has been around since the second century, but the establishment of rules close to what we play today was established in 1869. The first tournament was held in 1909, and it has been growing in popularity ever since. It took over eight years to get the Robson Ranch courts approved, designed and built. As each day passes more and more of the four courts are in use. Earlier Bob Cook, Shirley Martin and Judith Ream were presented with horseshoe score sticks to thank them for the passion they have shown over the past eight years on getting the horseshoe courts approved, designed and then built at Robson Ranch. Over this period many people took up the torch and forged ahead on getting this project completed in the form we have today. Bob Cook spoke with emotion when he went through the long list of people who joined him in getting this project completed.
Now the courts are built, people are now throwing some “shoes” and just having fun. You can see the Robson Ranch Horseshoe Club members having fun competing against each other in this social setting.
