Many Happy Potters make items that are functional and oh so good for food and drink; other members create items that are decorative and whimsical. This month’s highlighted artist, Judie Smothers, fits into the latter category. Judie joined the Happy Potters in March 2013 to rekindle a craft enjoyed while in college. After a short time “playing in the mud” became a passion that overtook her love of painting. Her sculptures were featured in the February/March CATC window display that highlighted the process of handbuilding in clay from the raw materials through firing and the different forms of finishing bisqued (once fired) pieces.
Judie is a former art teacher who likes the weird and wonderful creativity that is inside all of us. Stop by the pottery club Monday and Thursday to meet some of the great people that also like to get their hands dirty!
We always have room for those of you who are interested in learning or perfecting your talents using clay. If you have any questions give Pat Sabo a call.
