The Men’s Golf Association is not just some guys who like to golf and share a story or two. They are men of conscience and purpose who care about the community in which they live, and they donate to many different charitable causes throughout the year. This January, their hearts, which are larger than most of their slices, were on display again. Headed up by the director of golf, T. Craig Pullen, and the MGA’s own Steve Johnston, they collected and stored donations of new and used golf equipment and apparel from the members of the Robson golfing community for the First Tee of Fort Worth, and on Jan. 26, Steve delivered the treasure trove.
The First Tee of Fort Worth is a youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values of honesty, integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and courtesy to young people in the greater Fort Worth community. Founded in 2004, the First Tee of Fort Worth is one of over 200 chapters of the First Tee, an organization that is recognized as one of the premier youth character-education programs in the country. The Fort Worth Chapter is located in Rockwood Park on the Jacksboro Highway, along with the Rockwood Golf Course.
The number and quality of items donated season over season is still amazing. Some of the items included in this donation were 20 golf bags; 16 complete driver through putter sets of golf clubs; dozens of individual clubs, including wedges, putters, and hybrids; multiple pairs of golf shoes; four dozen club covers; golf umbrellas; hundreds of golf tees; and 170 dozen golf balls.
The equipment and clothing donated is for junior golfers who might not otherwise have access to golf equipment. The goal of the First Tee is to enable young girls and boys to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills curriculum, they create learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids carry to everything they do. It is the belief of the First Tee organization that all kids deserve the chance to grow in a supportive environment with mentors guiding them. The organization is dedicated to building programs that are accessible, welcoming, and as impactful as they are fun.
Thank you, Robson golfers—you have done it again! Although you may not hear them say thank you or see it in their eyes, know that on behalf of the First Tee of Fort Worth and all the junior golfers who have access to this terrific organization, that you have made a significant impact.
