All year long, various clubs here on the Ranch have held fundraising events coordinated by a team of Wildhorse Lady Niners (WLN). There is truth in the adage that when we work together, great things happen. That has certainly been the outcome of this monumental effort to raise money for the nonprofit Women Rock, Inc., a Sherman-based breast cancer support group.
One of the final events was the Unmask Cancer Golf Tournament, hosted by the WLN and open to all Robson Ranch women. The day started out with a prayer, bagpipe music, a photo opportunity, and then 138 golfers in golf carts draped in pink scattered across all three courses for 18 holes of fun. Some of the holes gave golfers a chance to win a car by hitting a hole-in-one. Other holes had “celebrity assistance” in tee shots from Craig Pullin, Joe Mikulik, Tyler Clark, and Stephen Zaudtke.
Following the golf, participants made their way to the ballroom for a chef’s salad lunch, a silent auction, raffle ticket prizes, and a live auction hosted by Gayle Lee. Becci Tomesek won the Eagles Toss Boards; Marlene McNemar won the Florida vacation raffle to Anna Maria Island; Laurie Tauriainen, a nurse navigator who works with breast cancer patients, won the Ozark vacation raffle; Cheryl Bryson had the winning bid for the quilt made by Deb Andrews and Lucia Bone; and Jackie Fox had the highest bid for the Lake Charles, Va., vacation.
“This has been an amazing journey, and we are so thankful we had the opportunity to serve and meet so many of you and hear your stories,” said Dee Wallace and Danna Winiesdorffer, Pink co-chairs.
A special thanks to all the volunteers who made the day a success and to all the businesses that supported the efforts of WLN to raise more than $50,000 for Women Rock, Inc.
