Genealogy Notes

Dian Darr

Come discover your family heritage and ancestry with us. It is so rewarding to explore and research your ancestors who have overcome such hardships to arrive in America and establish a new life. We meet on the first and third Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the CATC, Room 104. Help Sessions are held on the second Monday of each month at 2 p.m. in the CATC, Room 104. Experienced genealogists will be available to answer questions and help members with their research. They are experts in helping us break down those “brick walls.”

Upcoming programs:

Tuesday, June 18, at 7 p.m.: Barbara Coakley will speak on “Research the Location First: Understanding Locality Guides.” Before you start researching your ancestors, you need to understand the location and time period that they lived. We will learn about sources for information about records, historic events, and more to create a location guide.

Tuesday, July 2, at 7 p.m.: No meeting

Monday, July 15, at 2 p.m.: Help Session

Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m.: Sandra Crowley will speak on “Using City Directories in Your Research.” In many cases, city directories provide information about your ancestors but, more importantly, they give you an overall picture of the time and place your ancestors lived. Use these resources not only to help you learn about the area, but also to identify friends and neighbors in the area who might yield additional clues to the everyday life of your ancestors.
