“HOGMANAY” (Scottish: pronounced HOG-mɘ-NĀY) is the Scot’s word for the first day of the year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner (which means drinking, eating, socializing and golf!) This New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2016, starts a new tradition…sign up to play the first annual Hogmanay Golf Tournament for an entire day of good friends, good food and fun golf. As in the original tradition, Lords (men) will only be allowed to bring two clubs of their choice; they will tee off from the Gold Tees. In the early days it was deemed unladylike to swing a club; therefore, women were only allowed to putt, so guess what, Ladies? Yep, all you need is your putter! If it is cold out, you will really appreciate this tradition. Each couple will receive a parchment copy of the “Original 13 Rules of Golf” from the year of our Lord 1745. These will be the only rules that apply in this tournament. To further put you in the mood, a bagpiper will provide additional ambience.
The entry fee of $175 per couple includes great tee gifts; first, second and third place trophies and cash prizes; a complete hot traditional Scottish breakfast at the Wildhorse Gill and an authentic Scottish dinner prepared by Chef Aubrey at the clubhouse. Check in, tee gifts and buffet breakfast will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Shotgun start at 11:00 a.m.; social with cash bar and awards ceremony at 2:30 and buffet dinner at 3:00 p.m.
This tournament will take place, rain, shine, hot or cold. If the Scots can create such a fun game in their climate (i.e. cold, wet, miserable) then we all can play one day in their honor! So all you Lords and Ladies, pick up your registration form at the Pro Shop, but HURRY, entry deadline is October 1, 2015!
Note: this is a private tournament presented by Stephen and Victoria Pettigrew and is not affiliated with Robson Ranch, the Wildhorse Golf Club, Wildhorse Grill, WGA or MGA or any of their affiliates. Please email questions to: [email protected] or call 940-262-0364.
