Country Cookin’ Luncheon at the Ranch

It was a warm, June afternoon at Robson Ranch when the Rockin’ Red Ranchers gathered at the clubhouse to celebrate National Country Cooking Month with a special luncheon created by our very own Grill chefs. The tables were adorned with black and white checkered placemats and topped with gold napkins that coordinated with the hostesses’ whimsical lady chicken aprons that reflected true southern charm.

The menu for the day was a classic southern feast: chicken-fried chicken, creamy gravy, fluffy mashed potatoes, and a crisp garden salad. There was also plenty of iced tea and water to wash it down with! As they dug into the meal, the ladies couldn’t help but reminisce about their own family recipes. There was much laughter over memories of foods that they didn’t like! As the meal came to a close, it was time for dessert: a decadent Texas sheet cake. We also learned the unique story of the cake and that Laura Bush loved to have it served at the White House. The cake, rich and moist with a poured chocolate frosting, celebrates the heart and soul of country cooking.

To work off the calories, Bert Zeitlin led us in a few rounds of line dancing. Of course, everyone participated in the Chicken Dance! The luncheon was more than just a meal. It was a celebration of tradition and friendship, and everyone thanked our hostesses Geraldine Gawle, Ilene Schlesinger, Rosemary Weinstein, and Bert Zeitlin for a lovely afternoon.
