The Robson Ranch Women’s Club had its monthly luncheon on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. First time attendees (the majority of them were from our new group of villas) introduced themselves, told how long they have lived here, where they recently moved from and where they are living at Robson Ranch. President Teresa Blackburn-Korn then read a list of all members celebrating a birthday in September.

Peggy Crandell, our program chairperson, introduced some pioneer neighbors who were some of the first residents at Robson Ranch. Our guest speakers were our own residents: Doris Cozart, Kathleen Wazny and Nancy Rogus.

Doris Cozart is an international dog show judge. She delighted us with “tails” of dog show shenanigans. Doris has been a breeder and an exhibitor of Standard and Toy Poodles since 1967. She has won Best In Show and also Specialty Best In Show. Doris began in the sport of dogs while living in England during her husband Gene’s Air Force career. She became an AKC judge in 1990 and is now a four time judge of the Poodle Club of America, along with having served as the club’s director, judge’s education chair and served on the show committee. Not only has she been a judge in most of the United States, she has also judged in Australia, Italy, Philippines, Canada and Indonesia.

Kathleen Wazny is our city council member here in district 3. She proceeded to spill the beans on how she progressed to city council member. She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and has always loved politics. She has been involved from the beginning as a “citizen leading citizens” to bring major changes in Denton. Kathleen has many committee assignments such as ethics, development code review and the council historic landmark. She was elected to office May 2015.

Nancy Rogus is a retired Air Marshal. She has done duty on domestic and international flights. She assured us we would never know who the air marshal was on our next flight. She explained how safe we should all feel while flying, as the air marshals receive extensive training. They rank among those federal law enforcement officers that hold the highest standard for handgun accuracy. A Federal Air Marshal’s job is to blend in with other passengers on board aircraft and rely heavily on their training, including investigative techniques, criminal and terrorist behavior recognition, firearms proficiency, aircraft specific tactics, and close quarters self-defense measures to protect the flying public.

Our charity for this luncheon was the Denton Community Food Bank; $453 was generously donated from our members and guests.

Our fall social mixer was Wednesday, September 16, at the Grill. Sally Baggott hosted the event and inspired a fun time for all. We had games, door prizes, met some new people and just had a good time.
