In May, the Women’s Club will welcome the Ballet Folklórico Dancers from Little Elm High School. Their instructor Daisy Castilleja has been teaching for 10 years in Little Elm ISD. She is a native of Little Elm, graduating from Little Elm High School.
She currently teaches social studies, including a course in Mexican American Studies, and sponsors Little Elm High School’s Ballet Folklórico group, along with their contracted instructor Mrs. Kaya Ramirez Wenninger. This is year two of the program.
The group focuses on traditional folk dances of various regions of Mexico. The group is made up of 24 students in grades 9 through 12 and is open to both males and females. This year the group won the Silvia Lozano Award at the North Texas Folklórico Contest.
The May luncheon will be a BYO Taco Salad Buffet: mixed greens, seasoned ground beef, shredded cheese, black beans, roasted corn, diced tomatoes, diced onion, Fritos, sour cream, lime vinaigrette, and salsa ranch dressing. Dessert is churros with chocolate drizzle and $5 margaritas!
(Luncheon checks are due by Monday, April 28, at 8 a.m.) Deposit your $19 luncheon check in the Sports Center, Women’s Lounge, in the white mailbox. You can also pay for your luncheon by PayPal. Check the website at www.rrwomensclub.org.
The charity for the May luncheon is Denton County Friends of the Family, and donations will go to Friends of the Badge.
For the March meeting, President Donna DeBoever called the meeting to order at 11:22 a.m. To reduce congestion in the hallway, the Home & Garden raffle table and Our Daily Bread were moved to the front near the stage. Donna reminded members to check the red folders with “Read Me” and to review the slideshow for important information.
For clarification, a woman can attend a luncheon one time before becoming a member. She will need to register and prepay for her lunch for the program she is attending. If you have any questions, contact Candace Anderson at [email protected].
Donna DeBoever and Chris Anderson introduced new members, first-time attendees, and guests. There were seven individuals introduced. During the March business meeting, we learned that as of the meeting, we have more than 359 members. Speaking of membership, it is time to renew. Membership dues are $20 (payable to RRWC) and are good until the end of 2025. Membership forms can be found at www.rrwomensclub.org. Please note: Your membership check should be separate from the luncheon check.
Shirley Monge celebrated the March birthdays, and the winner of the drawing for a lunch certificate was Gayle Brothers.
Upcoming Event:
Hot Springs Arkansas Trip: May 13-15
At the March luncheon, we were entertained by Jeri Sparks and the Baywood Singers. This is a group of 12 ladies, with nine being Robson residents. They have been performing since 2019 and often perform at rehabilitation facilities. The Baywood Singers entertained us with many old-time favorites.
