Morty, one of the dogs photographed during the spring photo fundraiser

The Happy Tails Dog Club launched its spring season with a successful photo fundraiser on April 12, drawing local dog lovers for a day of photography and community spirit. Held against a colorful garden-themed backdrop, the event offered pet owners private photo sessions to capture lasting memories with their dogs. More than a dozen dogs took part, and their owners left delighted with the results.
On May 10 Happy Tails welcomed guest speaker Cindy Ratliff, leader of the Dog Scouts of America-Lone Star Paws Squad in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Representing the nation’s largest Dog Scout troop, Ratliff shared the organization’s mission: encouraging owners to help their dogs reach their full potential. The Dog Scouts motto, “Let us learn new things, that we may become more helpful,” reflects their focus on training, responsibility, and community service. Dog Scouts actively participate in local outreach, much like traditional youth scout organizations, and aim to raise well-mannered dogs who are welcome in public spaces.
The club isn’t slowing down. Throughout the month of May, the club will hold its annual Pet Food Drive. Collection boxes are placed at club member homes throughout the Ranch. Drop-off locations are 9405 Trailwood Drive, 10517 Murray S. Johnson, 9512 Rivercrest Drive, 9509 Lindenwood Trail, 9905 Teakwood, 8201 Enchanted Rock Trail, 8513 Sterling Drive, 10801 Southerland Drive, 9616 Orangewood Trail, 12524 Copper Ore Way, 10101 Soriano Street, and 9705 Grandview Drive. Last year’s drive collected over 2,700 pounds of pet food. This year’s donations will support the Denton Animal Support Foundation, the Pet Food Pantry at the Linda McNatt Animal Shelter, Our Daily Bread, SPAN Meals on Wheels’ Senior Paws program, and the Denton Veterans Association.
Looking ahead to June 14, the club will host a “Paint Your Pet” event, inviting members to create custom portraits of their furry companions. Participants will provide a photo in advance, which an artist will outline on a 16×20 canvas. Members will then bring the image to life using their choice of colors. The event will take place in Room 103 of the CATC building and will require a participation fee. Please reach out to Teresa McGill at [email protected] if you’d like to sign up!
Happy Tails Dog Club continues to serve as a hub for dog enthusiasts, combining education with enjoyable activities. The club meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Room 103 of the CATC building. Membership is open to all dog lovers, with annual dues set at $10 per household.
