We enter the month of May with hope, the expectation of warmer weather, and our gardens bursting into bloom. May is named after the Greek goddess Maia who was associated with fertility, growth, and spring.
Our featured card of the month was taught to us by Mary Ford. This card exemplifies the old saying “Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover.” The front of the card is simple and pretty. However, we had a big surprise upon opening it, because it “exploded” in our hands. Well, not a true explosion, because we stampers are a safety-minded bunch, but it opened in an unexpected way. Our creative minds went in all directions when thinking about other ways to utilize this technique. Stop by our window in the CATC building, and you will see samples of this card on display.
Many have wondered how our Sassy Stampers Club got its start. Robson Ranch began its development in 2001. The golf course was just being laid out. The lots were empty dirt with no trees, and there were no permanent buildings. The Sales Office was inside a trailer. It was made known that until 25 homes were occupied, the mail would not be delivered. The residents needed to drive to the main Denton Post Office to pick up their mail. The first permanent building was the Sales Office, naturally—Ha! One hundred ten original homeowners became known as The Pioneers. Some of the very first clubs founded by the residents were Dine Around, Potluck, Republican Club, and Road Runners.
Our club was started in 2005 by a handful of creative friends who came together and called themselves Robson Ranch Stampers. Before the Grill was built, they met in the main gym. After the Grill opened, they would sometimes meet in the Board Room. The club celebrated its first anniversary on July 16, 2005. Amazingly, by that time, they had acquired 30 members. In 2009 the name Sassy Stampers was voted on and approved. Today we are twice as big, and several of the original members are still active members.
