This past month was a busy one for Support Our Troops (SOT). We planned and celebrated one of our great fundraisers, our annual SOT Golf Tournament. The tournament was a sell-out and had many folks on the waitlist. We had several all-women teams also. We had many silent auction items, too. The new Grapevine Golf Cars store located right across the road donated a hole-in-one golf cart prize. Very exciting! This year we had more sponsors than ever before. We feel so proud and grateful to all the sponsors and individuals who support our organization. Lots of volunteers also stepped up to help make this important event a success. Robson Ranch Sales covered breakfast for all golfers and meals for any active-duty military members who played. We had lots of goody bags to hand out to the players that were full of items from many sponsors. Since this article was submitted before the tournament, we sure hope bad weather didn’t spoil the event.
All of the money we raise goes to the military we support and to some organizations that also support and help our military. We currently sponsor 93 troops, nine of whom are deployed. They are currently in Guam, the UK, Qatar, Bahrain, Korea, and two on the waters. In March we sent out 28 boxes to those deployed. Year to date, we have sent 87 boxes of goods to them.
Every month we send beautiful cards made by our incredibly creative Sassy Stampers. The cards have personal notes written by SOT members. Those deployed get a card each month. Those at home receive cards at various times during the year. The troops really enjoy getting these beautiful greetings from us.
We offer flag kits to the folks at the Ranch. If you need an American flag in your yard, they will be installed by a member of SOT. The flag kits cost $60 (we only use U.S.-made flags). If you already have a flagpole installed and need a new flag, they can be ordered for $30, and they will be delivered to you. The person to call is Quinn Sowell at 940-262-1106.
For those of you who are new to the Ranch, SOT is a wonderful organization. You do not have to have served in the military to join, and dues are only $10 per year, which covers printer paper, ink, and other expenses. If you have a relative who is presently serving in the military, we would be honored to support them. You can pick up a form at the clubhouse to sign them up for SOT to support. Our meetings are held on the second Monday of the month in the clubhouse at 1 p.m. We would love to see you there.
