Meet Rosemary Kuhn Bouse

Joan Muyskens Pursley

On Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2:30 p.m., children’s book author Rosemary (Rosie) Kuhn Bouse will speak about the inspiration for her work and will share her six new books in the Robson Ranch Library.

“My books focus on the birth of Christ through the eyes of multicultural children,” she says. “My purpose is to make all children feel accepted. All are needed to be members of God’s Kingdom of light and peace. Five of the six books have original songs that I composed,” she adds.

Rosie spent her early years on the family farm in Aurora, Ill. She then moved to Glen Ellyn, Ill., and attended nearby Catholic schools through college. She also attended nursing school and worked as an RN for 30 years. The last 15 years were spent doing home-care nursing with special needs children.

Many of Rosie’s adult years were spent in Naperville, Ill. As a hobby, she took art classes. “Colored-pencil drawing and illustrating children’s books were my focus,” she says. “In 1998 I self-published my first book, Quiet Moments of Grace for the Seasons of Your Heart. Its success encouraged her to keep writing, and in 2014 Guardian Angel Publishing published three of her books, with three more issued over the next few years. In speaking about their success, Rosie notes that she personally sold more than 1,000 books at fairs, church Christmas bazaars, charity events, and Relevant Radio luncheons. “I also donated books to school libraries and did in-person book readings in the parochial schools in Naperville. Money earned was donated to school tuition assistance and foreign missions.”

Unfortunately, with the onset of COVID-19, her publisher closed, and Rosie was no longer able to get copies of her books. However, new copies of six books were recently published, and they will be featured at the Nov. 6 event.

Rosie and her husband Steve moved to Texas shortly after their marriage. They moved to Robson Ranch in 2021 and quickly embraced this community’s active lifestyle. Rosie is in the Music Club, the Paint & Palette Club (besides exhibiting, she writes a monthly Pioneer Press article spotlighting one of its artists), and participates in Women Sharing Hope. She spent two years in the Happy Potters Club but dropped out to work on publication of her new books.

Rosie and Steve enjoy riding on his Harley Davidson, plus Rosie clocks a lot of hours on her bicycle. They cherish time with grandchildren in this area and in Illinois and are active in St. Mark’s Church in Argyle where they teach sixth grade religious education and other ministries at Sunday Mass.
